Johannesburg, South Africa – 22 July 2025 – HONOR is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated foldable flagship, the HONOR Magic V5, in the South African market. While the official launch date is yet to be announced, select media professionals were recently invited to an exclusive roundtable session, where they were given a first look at the innovation-packed device.

As one of the invited attendees, I had the privilege of engaging with HONOR’s regional leadership team, exploring the device’s capabilities firsthand, and discussing how the Magic V5 is set to transform the foldable smartphone experience.

Sleek. Strong. Sophisticated

Boasting an ultra-slim profile of 8.8mm and weighing only 217g, the HONOR Magic V5 is designed for elegance and portability. Available in refined colour options like Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown, it merges form with high function.

Durability is at the heart of the device’s design, featuring HONOR’s Super Armored Inner Screen, Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield, and Super Steel Hinge. With an IP58 and IP59 rating, the Magic V5 offers exceptional protection against water and dust — a first for HONOR’s foldable range.

Immersive Display Experience

Users can look forward to a 7.95-inch OLED inner screen and a 6.43-inch OLED cover screen, both supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and an impressive 5000 nits peak brightness. These displays also support stylus functionality and offer over 1 billion colours for vibrant and precise visuals.

Powerful Battery and Fast Charging

Equipped with a 5820mAh Silicon-Carbon Battery, the Magic V5 promises all-day power. Charging is swift and seamless with 66W wired and 50W wireless HONOR SuperCharge technology — perfect for users on the move.

Next-Level Camera System

The device features the AI Falcon Camera System, combining:

  • 50MP Wide Camera (f/1.6, OIS)

  • 64MP Periscope Telephoto (f/2.5, OIS)

  • 50MP Ultra-Wide Camera (f/2.0)

It also offers AI Super Zoom and Harcourt Portrait Mode for studio-quality results. Dual 20MP front-facing cameras on both the outer and inner screens round out the photography experience.

Built for Performance

At the core is the Snapdragon 8 Elite (3nm) chipset, supported by 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage, ensuring fluid multitasking, gaming, and creative workflows.

A Glimpse into the Future

While the HONOR Magic V5 is not yet available to the public, what I witnessed during the roundtable points to a device that is not only innovative but purposefully built to empower modern users. From content creators and entrepreneurs to mobile professionals, this is a foldable worth waiting for.

    The weight spec got me. Nothing beats a light portable phone. The last thing you want is your pants falling down because of a heavy phone.
