From Pyramid to Diamond: AI Is Reshaping Organisational Structure

Image
The old keys don't fit the new doors. For decades, organisations have been built like pyramids: a broad base of junior talent, a narrowing middle-management tier and a small executive peak. Artificial intelligence is reshaping that pyramid into something entirely new and if you're not preparing your people for the pressure that creates, you're already behind. Think about how a diamond actually forms: intense pressure applied to carbon over time. That's precisely what's happening in the middle of your organisation right now. AI is automating entry-level tasks at unprecedented speed, pushing younger, less-experienced people into responsibility far earlier than previous generations ever faced. At the same time, these same tools are letting organisations run with flatter structures and fewer layers. The base is narrowing. The top isn't going anywhere. The middle is where the shape, and the strain, is changing fastest. People aren't all ready Here's the cha...

Mid-year 2026: Strong stock levels and rate certainty shape South Africa’s pre-owned market

Image
South Africa’s pre-owned vehicle market continues to offer strong availability of late-model vehicles, driven by healthy stock levels and sustained demand. With the prime lending rate held steady at 10.50% following the South African Reserve Bank’s decision in July 2026, buyers now have greater certainty on financing costs. Informed purchasers who work with transparent sellers and specialist finance partners remain well positioned. Weelee, South Africa’s most trusted pre-owned car marketplace, shares key mid-year insights based on its platform data and broader market trends. Market conditions Strong new-vehicle sales in 2025, including a notable increase in new Chinese models entering the market, have resulted in a solid supply of quality near-new trade-ins entering the pre-owned market. This increased stock, combined with ongoing buyer interest, has supported healthy availability across many popular segments. At the same time, the higher prime rate has raised monthly repay...

Turn the bag around: What every pet owner should know before buying pet food

Image
Most South African pet owners carefully read the ingredients on the food they buy for themselves, yet many spend very little time looking at what goes into their pets’ bowls. With International Dog Day taking place on 26 August, it is a timely opportunity to consider not only how much we love and care for our dogs, but also whether we are giving them the nutrition they need to thrive. The same principle applies to cats, whose specific biological and nutritional needs also deserve careful consideration. We have become increasingly conscious of what we put into our own bodies, asking questions about ingredients, what is good for us, what to avoid and how foods are processed. According to Sonja Maricevic, Chief Operations Officer at Pack Leader, pet owners should be applying that same level of curiosity to the food they choose for their dogs and cats. With more than 15 years’ experience in the pet health and nutrition space, Maricevic believes that taking a few moments to read the i...

Amendment of the Small Merger Guidelines: What dealmakers need to know

Image
The Competition Commission has published draft amendments to its Small Merger Guidelines for public comment, aligning the small merger notification criteria with the revised merger thresholds that took effect on 1 May 2026. On 14 August 2026, the Competition Commission (Commission) gazetted draft amendments to its Guidelines on Small Merger Notification (Small Merger Guidelines) and invited interested parties and stakeholders to submit written comments within 30 days of publication. The only proposed change to the existing Small Merger Guidelines is the increase of the monetary thresholds. The proposed amendments stem from the increase in merger notification thresholds that came into force earlier this year. Because the existing Small Merger Guidelines benchmark their notification criteria against the regulated large merger thresholds, the upward revision of those thresholds earlier in the year necessitated corresponding changes to the Small Merger Guidelines. While the Co...
